Why Proper Storage Matters
Research peptides are sensitive compounds that can degrade when exposed to unfavorable conditions such as elevated temperatures, moisture, light, or repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Proper storage helps maintain the integrity of the material and supports consistent research results.
General Storage Recommendations
Most lyophilized research peptides should be stored under the following conditions:
- Temperature: Refrigerated at 2–8°C for short-term storage. For longer-term storage, some peptides may benefit from freezer storage at -20°C or below.
- Light: Store away from direct light. Amber vials or opaque containers can help protect light-sensitive compounds.
- Moisture: Keep containers sealed and dry. Lyophilized peptides are hygroscopic and can absorb moisture from the air, which may affect stability.
Handling Upon Receipt
When receiving lyophilized peptides, allow the sealed container to equilibrate to room temperature before opening. This helps prevent moisture condensation on the cold powder, which could introduce unwanted water into the sample.
After Reconstitution
Once a lyophilized peptide has been reconstituted into solution, it is generally less stable than in its dry form. Reconstituted peptides should be used promptly, stored at appropriate temperatures, and protected from repeated freeze-thaw cycles where possible. Aliquoting into single-use portions before freezing can help minimize degradation.
