What Is the GLP-1 Receptor?
The glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor is a G protein-coupled receptor expressed in various tissues throughout the body, including the pancreas, brain, heart, and gastrointestinal tract. It plays a significant role in regulating insulin secretion, glucose metabolism, and appetite signaling.
GLP-1 is an incretin hormone naturally produced in the gut in response to food intake. It stimulates insulin release in a glucose-dependent manner, suppresses glucagon secretion, and slows gastric emptying.
